    After the gunfire

    • February 04, 2014

On January 27, 2014 Darion Marcus Aguilar, a 19-year-old from College Park, opened fire in Columbia Mall with a shotgun killing two mall employees; Brianna Benlolo, 21, and Tyler Johnson, 25.

I grew up in Howard County and frequented the mall as a teenager. As an adult living in Baltimore City, I have sometimes pinned for the safety of the suburbs when gun violence has stuck close to home. No more.

I felt that it was important for us to give this story a proper visual treatment. My team and I worked furiously to produce this presentation– including interactive graphics, design and coding– in one (very long) day to meet print deadlines. Dana Amihere and Patrick Maynard were the driving force on the graphics and Greg Kohn did the heavy lifting in the code. I designed the intro and art-directed/managed the entire affair.

This story is no longer hosted online by The Baltimore Sun.
